Wow. It's been a while since I posted here, and by that I mean a post which was actually about games, not just profanity towards a video games store. But now I'm able to sit down and take a moment to talk about why it's been so long since I last posted here.
To make it short, Back in September, I went to visit my relatives in India for about 2 weeks and ended up staying there for 4 1/2 months. To say it wasn't trying is a bit of an understatement. I only packed enough clothes in a small suitcase for 2 weeks. It was hard, but through heat and illness, I managed to pull it off with some shred of sanity remaining intact. It wasn't without it's toll, however, as my health, as I stated earlier was affected during my stay, main problem being that I developed kidney stones, and then developed other health ailments which only complicated the matter. The good thing is that the stones passed (not without its share of screaming) and I'm now doing much better, especially now that I'm back in Canada.
I should point out that there was a casualty during my stay there. My poor, old Acer laptop that has been faithfully working since I bought it back in 2004 finally crapped out on me, a victim of the hot temperatures combined with an already hot video card mixed in with a 3-D application that was a bit of a resource hog, only made a volatile situation even worse. It finally caused a burn out of the laptop V-RAm which, while it's still "working", any program with any 3-D application applied to it (i.e: game)will not work anymore, not to mention the blue haze and pixels all over the screen, just lead to it's eventual demise. Oh well, you handled well while you did, and helped me get through some tough times. Not only that, I managed to finish off a couple of games thanks to you!
Since I was in India for so long, my choices were rather limited, leaving me with little option but to start playing some of the older titles I had lying around, and thankfully that's where a site like Good Old Games (http://www.gog.com) came in handy. Through that website, I was able to download a number of classic games, some of which I had played before, and others I had only heard of, and even a couple I had never seen before.
This post could drag on forever, so i'll make it brief:
- Original War (An RTS with RPG like qualities which made it unique)
- Hostile Waters (Another RTS hybrid, and a totally enjoyable game. I'm suprised I never played it before)
- Simon the Sorceror 1 and 2: I finished one, and it was a funny point and click adventure. I look forward to seeing how 2 is.
There were other titles I bought, but these were the titles I played through and completed.
I also played a bit of my old collection of games which I had left in India, notably, Freespace 2, and Gabriel Knight 1, and it was a great nostalgia trip.
I came back to Canada in the end January, and I've been here since.
I've adjusted well enough to home, and it's great to be back. I think that there's just been so much that's happened in the time between posts that it would be impossible to recount most, if not all of what happened to me, in terms of my life as well as gaming. I hope that I can sorta "reboot" the blog and start fresh.
Till next time then.
